Lucky Envelope Brewing in Seattle, WA is launching a beer, “Gochujang Chocolate Stout” inspired by Kat Lieu’s Modern Asian Kitchen recipe, Gochujang Choocate Mochi Cake! Portions of all proceeds from beer sales and cookbook sales that day will be donated to The Very Asian Foundation.
Kat Lieu, a Seattle author and board member of The Very Asian Foundation will be signing copies of “Modern Asian Kitchen” and “Modern Asian Baking.”
Kat will have food samples for tasting and baked goodies for sale, along with JD who is bringing Baked Goods for sale and Jenn Tang Skelley who will bring Cross-Stitch/Knitted Items! <3
Year of the dragon exhibition & fundraiser

The Very Asian Foundation's mission is to shine a light on Asian experiences through advocacy and celebration. We aim to uplift and support the expansion of Asian stories and voices because we believe when all of our stories are told, we are all better for it. More than that, we provide grants to various organizations and individuals doing the vital work of strengthening our Asian communities.

Join Kat Lieu, author of Modern Asian Baking, for an online fundraiser benefiting The Very Asian Foundation, whose mission is to shine a light on Asian experiences through advocacy and celebration..
If your last experience sinking your teeth into a mochi treat left you wondering just how these magical little sweets are made, join Kat Lieu in the comfort of your own home, where she will teach you all about mochi. In this interactive online workshop she’ll explore a variety of mochi-making techniques: the oven, the waffle iron, and frying pan! On the menu: classic mochi, chocolate or sesame mochi, and pandan or ube-flavored mochi waffles. You’ll learn all about wrapping mochi and other ways to create these beautiful delights.
What She Said: Featuring Food, Beverages, and Bosses
W Hotels launched What She Said to celebrate the amazing women who stay with us every day and those who live in our communities. We wanted to create a safe space for women to share their experiences and be heard, learn from each other and connect.
This panel discussion will be focused on women in the food and beverage industry. Celebrate, learn and connect with the women taking the scene by storm. Michelle Li moderates. Details here.
Opera Theatre of St. Louis: New Works Collective
VAF supports the New Works Collective launched by the Opera Theatre of St. Louis, including a mini-rock opera from The Slants, an Asian American band who fought for the right to trademark its name all the way to the Supreme Court. Read more here.

Two Saint Paul schools will receive a total of more than 70 books by AANHPI authors that share stories about AANHPI experiences. The Very Asian Foundation (VAF) in partnership with We Need Diverse Books are proud to deliver more than 70 books to two Twin Cities schools through The May Book Project. The project aims to help schools and libraries build and maintain robust Asian American youth literature collections for all readers, and provides funding to donate books to at-need libraries.

Crank’d Up Consulting and Girls on the Run Snohomish County are pleased to announce that Edmonds International Women’s Day will celebrate its fifth anniversary in 2023. The event will be held the afternoon of Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the Edmonds Waterfront Center, and is again being planned as a hybrid event.
The schedule will be released closer to the event date. Though the international theme for 2023 has yet to be announced, the event will honor local women who were front line workers during the pandemic, feature women chefs in the Edmonds area, as well as local speakers with regional and international reach.
A Very Asian Mixer in NYC
The Very Asian Foundation celebrates some of the nation’s most impactful Asian American storytellers and journalists during the duPont awards in New York.
Honorees: Ashan Singh, Eva Pilgrim, Joanne Molinaro, Juju Chang, Sandy Lee, and Vicky Nguyen. Special guests included KSDK journalists who were duPont finalists for its Race: Listen, Learn Live special — the only finalist centered around Asian American experiences during the pandemic — Abby Llorico, Ahmad Hicks, Sonya Potter, and Tram Anh Nguyen represented the St. Louis-based station.
