Celebrating Women’s History Month with Asian Women Are Strong

Women’s History Month kicked off with Asian Women Are Strong’s summit, “Beyond the Spotlight” on March 7, 2026.

The free, full-day experience was inspired by an experience familiar to many Asian women. The efforts that shape communities and organizations are often carried out behind the scenes, far from public attention or acknowledgement.

The event focused on reframing how we recognize and honor the impact of Asian and Pacific Islander women. The day featured influential speakers, workshops, performances, guided tours and community experiences at the Asian Art Museum.

The Very Asian Foundation hosted a panel spotlighting AAPI women who are shaping the world of sports behind the scenes. Coordinated by Co-Founder Gia Vang and moderated by Executive Director Soogi Hong, the discussion featured Charis Mangulabnan, Mallika Pereira, and MyLinh Chau.

Titled “Beyond the Highlight Reel: Women Who Build Winners,” the conversation focused on the essential work that is often overlooked. From building culture and setting standards to supporting athletes and fostering environments where people thrive, the panelists shared how their leadership and dedication help lay the foundation for winning, on and off the field.

Through the May Book Project we gave away a 200 books from our collection of books highlight Asian American authors and publishing companies. Signed copies of Boat Baby by Vicky Nguyen were donated, as well as copies of Tic Tac Toe Chicken by Kimberly Tso and Calling All Future Voters by Laura Atkins, Ed Hailes Jr., and Jennifer Lai-Peterson.
